A continuance of dialogues with a sage who did not see himself as a sage, but others did; from Brian K. Wilcox. "Meetings with an Anonymous Sage."

A question was posed in evening group sharing time ~ "What about altered states of consciousness, is this something to wish for?"
"Being," said the sage, "who we are, not the person many think they are, is a natural perfection. Ask yourself, 'Why would perfection need to be altered?' And, 'How could what is natural become more natural?'"
Then, the sage spoke in verse...
Being is
not a state or non-state
no ladder lower to higher
no decrease or increase
Isness is
always here, closer than breath,
but no one can find it
